One
of the first speed dating companies. Originally an American brand,
in the UK it operates in London, Glasgow and Manchester though events
can be infrequent
How
does it work?
When
you buy ticket through the website you set up a profile too. The
profile is made up of multiple choice questions about you and your
'ideal HurryDater'.
On
the night, when you arrive at the venue you are greeted by your
hosts who give you a scorecard and pen. Your scorecard contains
lots of information about how the event works and also has your
number on it. You'll also be given a badge on which you have to
write the number which is on your scorecard and your name.
When
the dating begins it is the men who rotate around the tables, each
of which have a letter on them. After 3 minutes, a whistle signals
the changeover.
After
the event you log on to the site, click on 'my scorecard' and put
your ticks into the system yourself.

does it attract?
My
event in Mayfair was attended by quite a few people who work in
the city
What's
different about it?
You
get to choose where you sit. HurryDate tries to be less formal and
rigid than some dating companies and so not only do you choose where
to sit, but the guys also choose where to start.
What
does it cost?
£22,
but there's a 25% discount on tickets for events if you join HurryDate
online, their dating website. (membership from £9.95)
What
makes it special?
When
you've put your ticks in on the website the following day, your
told what your matches are and then also shown who ticked you and
asked if you want to change your mind and tick them! I've never
come across this facility to 'change your mind' with any other company.
What's
the down side?
The
relaxed approach to speed dating has it's disadvantages and the
badge number system at HurryDate is bizarre. The form lists numbers
between 1 and 100 and the men I saw all had numbers between 51 and
64, but several numbers were missing and the men didn't arrive in
any kind of numerical order!
The
website is an unfortunate design as you have to go through a process
of drop down and clickable options before you can see the events
scheduled for your area.
HurryDate
seem to be slow to confirm venues for events, so you may find your
booking onto an evening without knowing exactly where it's going
to be held.
Any
tricks I need to know?
If
the venue that you are booked for has drink specials it's worth
paying attention to what they are. There was a happy hour when I
went to Babble, but it only went on till 7pm and I arrived at five
past!
