What
is it?
A
London dating party organiser who include speed dating as an optional
element of the evening. Events attract about 100 people, but big
Saturday night parties have as many as 350 guests.
How
does it work?
If
you are thinking about attending a Single Solution event you can
select a date and view basic details of the people who have already
bought tickets before you commit! This gives you an idea of the
age and professions of the people you are likely to meet before
you spend any money or even register.
When
you've decided which date you want to go on, you'll be asked to
register on the website and complete a short profile about yourself
including a boring fact and an interesting fact about you.
Once
you have done this you can then see the full profiles for everyone
else who is signed up on the site, including those who are attending
the same event as you and you can start messaging each other before
the night.
On
the night of the event you'll be asked to choose a time of a speed
dating session that you would like to take part in, several are
held for small groups throughout the evening.
When
all the guests have arrived there is an ice-breaking activity. Don't
worry, nothing too cringe worthy! On the night I attended we were
each given half a photo of a famous celebrity and then told to find
the person with the other half of the photo. No mad rush, just an
incentive to circulate and talk to people! I had Jennifer Anniston,
and once I had found the other half of her, the two of us then had
to find the two halves of Brad Pitt! The first four people who complete
the two celebrity couples then get a bottle of champagne! Good fun
and not at all pressurised!
Your
then free to mingle and chat with people until it's time for your
speed dating slot, which takes place in a separate corner of the
bar. There are usually about 16 people taking part, which is a nice
number and there is the frantic dash to swap places that you can
experience at some speed dating events.
Who
does it attract?
It's
a bit of a dating company cliché that they run events for
'young professionals', but the Single Solution does seem to attract
exactly this and the beauty is if you don't believe me go and have
a look at the people already registered for events on their
website now!
What's
different about it?
The
hosts at the party all have a list of the guests profiles, which
means that they can use the information you have provided to introduce
you to someone with the same interests as you. It's more relaxed
than speed dating, but a more efficient way of meeting someone than
any other type of party.
What
does it cost?
The
average ticket price is £20, but the first few tickets for
any event are discounted and often completely free.
What
makes it special?
The
combination of speed dating and a relaxed environment similar to
Lock & Key is great. In many ways it's like smaller, cheaper,
less hectic version of Chemistry
What's
the down side?
Single
Solution do not give you score cards during the speed dating, so
if you want to see someone again, you have to either exchange contact
details on the night or remember their name and contact them on
the website later.
Any
tricks I need to know?
Resist
the temptation to write silly or flippant answers to the questions
that form your profile on the website, if your 'interesting fact'
is that you have a scar on your arm, this will not help you meet
anyone! However 'I have a scar on my arm after a motorcycle crash.
I restore old bikes and I'm passionate about racing' might do!
