What is it?

Members only events company for professional singles between the ages of 23-44. As well as running events like speed dating, cookery courses or days at the races, Tribe also have a members section on their website so you can message other members and a Make A Date facility where they will arrange a dinner date for you on an evening of your choice.

How does it work?

You can fill in your application form for membership online or by downloading and printing it. Tribe then contact you within a couple of days and arrange for you to meet them at their London office where among other things you'll have a black and white photo taken for the website. (Don't panic they take several and you pick the best!) If you pass the inspection you'll be informed by email and you can join as either and events member (where your online dating is restricted to the profiles of those you meet at events) or an online member.

I joined Tribe at their Valentine's Party in a private room in a London club. There was an option to take part in a small speed dating group and you had to pick a Valentine's card and find and give it to the person it was addressed to. Incredibly when I picked a card it was for the man I was standing next to and had been talking to all night!

After the event you are able to login to the members section of the website and see photos and profiles for everyone you've met and of course email them if you want! Tribe also publish photos of their events in the members only section of the site.

Who does it attract?

Not your average sad singles! You have to join Tribe to attend their events which means filling in an application form and then going to their office to have a chat with one of the Tribe team. They'll even ask for proof of ID and employment to make sure everybody you meet is properly vetted! Gorgeous Get Togethers offer their members access to Tribe's events, so that gives you a pretty good idea of the type of people that attend them! Most of the men I met were single because they'd spent too much of their time and energy on their careers and not because of any obvious personality flaws!

What's different about it?

Tribe has taken the best bits of lots of dating ideas and made them their own. You won't meet the vast unscreened selection that you get on a normal dating night, but you do get the speed dating style online system which allows you to contact people you've met at an event. There's also a big choice of events to cater for different tastes.

What makes it special?

Tribe meets all potential members to ensure they get the right crowd of people at their events. No other dating/singles company I have come across does this.

I love the Make A Date facility too. If you fancy a dinner date you pay a fee which covers the cost of the meal and arrangements, Tribe email everyone who matches your criteria and then sends you three profiles so you can pick your dinner date who then comes for free!

What's the down side?

If you're single and determined to get out there and have some fun, this is perfect, but membership to anything (like gyms!) is only worth doing if you think you will be attending enough events to justify the monthly fee.
